JLPT N4 · Everyday basics

JLPT N4 vocabulary, grammar and kanji

N4 is the second JLPT level and still basic Japanese, one step further than N5: reading short passages on familiar, everyday topics written with basic words and kanji, and following everyday conversations spoken a little slowly.

This is where the verb forms multiply (potential, passive, causative, conditionals), giving and receiving, and the polite speech used in shops and offices. Manabiya teaches each pattern next to the ones it is easily confused with.
